When I completed this etude, I was astonished to realize that many passages reminded me of a famous Finnish composer, thus the title. These similarities were definitely not my original intention when composing it!
But maybe it would not be such a bad idea to compile the especially tricky passages from said Scandinavian composer and write them into one etude. If I were to do this, then I would certainly consider the following works:
- Finlandia op. 26 – Symphonic Poem
- Symphony No. 7, op. 105
- Symphony No. 1, op. 39 (3rd mvt.)
- Symphony No. 1, op. 39 (1st mvt.)
- Symphony No. 7, op. 105
- Symphony No. 1, op. 39 (1st mvt.)
- Pelleas and Melisande, op. 46 – Incidental music (Entr’acte)
- The Tempest, op. 109 – Incidental music (Caliban’s Song)
- Symphony No. 2, (1st mvt.)
- The Tempest op. 109 – Incidental music (Overture)
- Violin Concerto, op. 47
- Finlandia op. 26 – Symphonic Poem
- Symphony No. 5, op. 82 (1st mvt.)
